Team Tidö principal David von Schinkel signals the outcome of the final STCC qualifying session of 2014, as Richard Göransson sweeps to third on the grid for tomorrow’s finale at Mantorp Park.
Richard went fifth fastest in the opening Q1 segment of qualifying, which translates into a P6 slot on the partially reversed grid applied in the first heat of Saturday’s double-header. In Q2, he wound up behind Volvo duo Thed Björk and Fredrik Ekblom, grabbing third place for Race 2.
Jan “Flash” Nilsson will start both races from 13th, and Roger Samuelsson from 15th.
Thanks to the ten points he scored in qualifying today, Richard is now up to fourth in the overall championship standings, where he is currently edging Mattias Andersson and Philip Forsman in an ever-intensifying scrap over championship positions.
Saturday’s STCC finale is expected to attract a strong crowd to mark the 2014 title showdown, with Team Tidö going all out to cap the season off in the best possible way.
Due to fog over Mantorp Park this morning, the Friday event schedule has suffered a one-hour delay, which means that STCC practice has been moved forward accordingly and will now commence at 12.45 local time.
