The Top 5 fastest Saab cars around the Nurburgring!

Saab 9-5 - Swedish Racing Development

The Nürburgring (Nordschleife – or “Green Hell”) in Germany, with its remaining 20.8 km (12.9 mi) long old section dating from 1927, is used by various motoring media outlets and vehicle manufacturers for testing. For testing, and something else – proving performance.

A Nürburgring lap record has therefore become one of the ultimate accolades for carmakers, with multiple huge manufacturers vying for the title, in multiple categories. The Saab cars are not  the world’s quickest vehicles, but  they slip into high-performance productions car.

By what we can see on Youtube videos, a few Saab cars have been really good at this famous track. Of course, the cars are completely different, with drivers of different abilities. Also, most drivers only took a few laps on this track so they did not know the track well enough.

And another factor affecting speed on this track – the number of vehicles on the track – sometimes is smaller And sometimes there is a crowd on the track. Take a look below to see the quickest Saab lap times at Nurburgring (At least the ones we found – If you know about the fastest time for the track, let us know).

The best time we could find was the Saab 9-5 from the SRD team (Swedish Racing Development) that went round for only 9 minutes and 12 seconds.

UpdateJoakim Bernhardsson provided us with additional information and recorders from Nurburgring – The Diners Club Saab 9-3 Sportsedan is probably the fastest Saab ever to lap the Nurburgring. That car did a time of 9.16 on the longer version with both the gp-track and Nordschleife wish was over 24 km at that time. That would be around 7.30 on the 20.8km track!

For over 15 years, Goran Aničić has been passionately focused on Saab automobiles and everything related to them. His initial encounter with Saab cars took place back in 2003 when the first Saab 9-3 and sedan version were introduced. At that moment, he was captivated by the car's Scandinavian design logic and top-notch engineering, and everything that followed stemmed from that first encounter. Later on, through his work at the editorial team of the Serbian automotive magazines "Autostart" and later "AutoBild," he had the opportunity to engage more closely with Saab vehicles. In 2008, he tested the latest Saab cars of that time, such as the Saab 9-3 TTiD Aero and Saab 9-3 Turbo X. In 2010, as the sole blogger from the region, he participated in the Saab 9-5ng presentation in Trollhättan, Sweden. Alongside journalists from around the world, he got a firsthand experience of the pinnacle of technological offerings from Saab at that time. Currently, Goran owns two Saabs: a 2008 Saab 9-3 Vector Sportcombi with a manual transmission, and a Saab 9-3 Aero Griffin Sport Sedan from the last generation, which rolled off the production line in Trollhättan in December 2011.
