Some time ago, we wrote about the design of the Saab 9-3 (Second Generation) model and How it’s Designed, but then we did not mention the design of one interesting detail – Saab 9-3 key fob.
At first glance, this little car piece has a very unusual design and all Saab car owners know about their unusual position (It’s unusual for those who do not know saab cars).
Fortunately, there are a large number of key-fob replacement manufacturers and owners of a Saab cars for a few dollars can find and replace the worn-out key fob (and even to protect them further).
Still, have you ever wondered – how this key-fob was designed? The answer is in the sketch that you can see below – Saab 9-3 key fob sketch, which SAAB see as an essential first contact for the customer to witness SAAB design DNA:
Design for this Saab piece was in charge of designer Jordan Bennett, who then worked in Saab Automobile as a designer of interior (Saab 9-3 Interior Trim Systems MY2003).
Now, he is Design Manager at Ford Motor Company. According to him, during the design process there were a few interesting ideas: “My lost proposal #1 sketches (above) from when I worked at Saab during 1999… final design was my integrated Saab badge spare key release button fob…“
I want to trade my SAAB with you.
