Meetup and Fun Ride: Saab Owners Club GB

The gathering of Saab enthusiasts from Saab Owners Club GBHerrington Country Park/Penshaw Monument Meeting” is planned for 5th May 2019. The meeting will be held in Herrington Country Park, Penshaw , Nr Sunderland, DH4 7EL

This is the 5th year that this meeting will have been held and the number of those attending has grown year on year to a record of 47 cars last year. One of the largest parks in Sunderland, with walks, cycle trails, an adventure play area and lake. This is a truly picturesque venue with the park being alongside Penshaw Monument. The park has developed into a significant home of wild life, hosting upto 100 species of birds. Get some fresh air and stunning views from the 70 – foot high monument at the top of Penshaw Hill.

The monument was built in 1844 and is a half size replica of the Temple of Hephaestus in Athens and can be seen for miles around. You can climb to the very top of Penshaw Monument up the spiral staircase hidden inside one of the monument pillars. Bookings can be made via the National Trust website….and tickets are usually available on the day. There are two cafe’s in the near vicinity with a cafe in the park being close to where we park and a cafe at the Penshaw Garden Centre situated about 400m from the monument.

The Saab meeting will commence from 10.30am and cars usually remain in the park until late afternoon. The weather was glorious last year and it was well after 5 when the last car left the park. Parking in the park is free of charge.

For over 15 years, Goran Aničić has been passionately focused on Saab automobiles and everything related to them. His initial encounter with Saab cars took place back in 2003 when the first Saab 9-3 and sedan version were introduced. At that moment, he was captivated by the car's Scandinavian design logic and top-notch engineering, and everything that followed stemmed from that first encounter. Later on, through his work at the editorial team of the Serbian automotive magazines "Autostart" and later "AutoBild," he had the opportunity to engage more closely with Saab vehicles. In 2008, he tested the latest Saab cars of that time, such as the Saab 9-3 TTiD Aero and Saab 9-3 Turbo X. In 2010, as the sole blogger from the region, he participated in the Saab 9-5ng presentation in Trollhättan, Sweden. Alongside journalists from around the world, he got a firsthand experience of the pinnacle of technological offerings from Saab at that time. Currently, Goran owns two Saabs: a 2008 Saab 9-3 Vector Sportcombi with a manual transmission, and a Saab 9-3 Aero Griffin Sport Sedan from the last generation, which rolled off the production line in Trollhättan in December 2011.
