First of all, although it seems impossible, all participants in this car accident are not life threatened. All those who saw Saab after the accident thought there were no survivors in this incident – however, the construction of the Saab car saved lives for the driver and her companion.

The crash happened around 3 p.m. on Works Road, near Honeoye Falls in Rochester (New York), and four people were taken to the hospital after a crash Wednesday afternoon.

Three vehicles were involved, including a Town of Henrietta dump truck, a 2008 Saab 9-3 and a 2013 Ford Escape. The dump truck was traveling west on Honeoye Falls No. 6 Road when Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies say it appears the Saab pulled out in front of the truck, causing the crash. Deputies stress the investigation is in its early stages.

Everyone was able to get out on their own except for the driver of the Ford. The truck driver, 34-year-old Joseph Larocca of Henrietta, suffered leg pain. The driver of the Saab, 19-year-old Chandler Simpson of Livonia, suffered an arm injury. The passenger, 18-year-old Allison Brickwood of Nunda, suffered a leg injury and a minor head injury. The driver of the Ford, 67-year-old Michael Gates of Honeoye Falls, suffered leg pain and minor internal injuries.

“When you hear about a dump truck loaded with asphalt rolling over on top of a car, of course we pictured there weren’t going to be survivors,” Schultz told. “Thankfully, everybody involved, they’re banged up but they’re okay. That was our number one priority.”

For over 15 years, Goran Aničić has been passionately focused on Saab automobiles and everything related to them. His initial encounter with Saab cars took place back in 2003 when the first Saab 9-3 and sedan version were introduced. At that moment, he was captivated by the car's Scandinavian design logic and top-notch engineering, and everything that followed stemmed from that first encounter. Later on, through his work at the editorial team of the Serbian automotive magazines "Autostart" and later "AutoBild," he had the opportunity to engage more closely with Saab vehicles. In 2008, he tested the latest Saab cars of that time, such as the Saab 9-3 TTiD Aero and Saab 9-3 Turbo X. In 2010, as the sole blogger from the region, he participated in the Saab 9-5ng presentation in Trollhättan, Sweden. Alongside journalists from around the world, he got a firsthand experience of the pinnacle of technological offerings from Saab at that time. Currently, Goran owns two Saabs: a 2008 Saab 9-3 Vector Sportcombi with a manual transmission, and a Saab 9-3 Aero Griffin Sport Sedan from the last generation, which rolled off the production line in Trollhättan in December 2011.

  • Little more on this story. The Saab is a 2008 9-3 Aero. The 10 wheeler loaded with asphalt hit the 9-3 in the driver door and front left fender. The 9-3 was pushed across the intersection where the Ford hit the car head-on. The 9-3 then traveled over the embankment where the 10 wheeler loaded with asphalt rolled onto the 9-3. Both driver and passenger were able to crawl out of the passenger front window with very minor injuries. I will be shopping for another 9-3 very soon!
