Vladimir Urbanek‘s name may be relatively unknown globally, as this artist was born behind the “Iron Curtain,” in 1973 in Prague. Then it was Czechoslovakia, and today it is the capital and largest city in the Czech Republic. Vladimir is a self-taught artist and has been painting and drawing for the past ten years, which cannot be inferred from his remarkable graphics – as if he’s been drawing since his birth.
This machine lovers of all kinds has always drawn them. Self-taught, he paints landscapes, portraits, nudes, or everyday life, quite simply. However, one topic that occupies him most, so it is because of this topic – he started by making his name in the aviation community. And of course, Saab and aviation have always been linked.

Airplanes we love
It was very close to his home in the Technical Museum in Prague that he found part of his inspiration. There is indeed a Spitfire, mythical plane, which he often drew. But the Hurricanes, Messerschmidt, P-38 Mustang and other more recent planes such as F84 or SAAB Gripen are also subjects for him and his drawings.
Classic Car Enthusiast
More recently Vladimir Urbanek began sketching, drawing and designing cars. It was once again at the museum that he found his inspiration, in front of a superb silver Arrow. Classic cars then entered his workshop. There is a nice variety of subject, from Walter, these Fiat produced under license to Bugatti, through Tatra, Jaguar or Ferrari. And Saab cars, of course!
SAAB TRIBUTE
And where Saab cars are, there are Saab planes. Inevitably, aviation is not far away. We find mixes between cars and planes in some of his paintings. Thus it combines a Rolls Royce and a Supermarine S6B (powered by Rolls Royce) or a SAAB 93 and a Saab J35 Draken.
You can order this beautiful “SAAB TRIBUTE” graphic featuring “shoulder to shoulder” Saab 93 and the legendary Swedish fighter SAAB J-35 Draken, circa 1960, for as little as 6 euros in size 40x30cm. And even more interesting, as Vladimir states, this motif can be refined in oil on canvas technique, of course at a special price, because it is a special order.
For his works, he uses two distinct techniques. His monochrome paintings are done in pencil while his colorful paintings are done in oil on canvas. You can order this great, unique painting of Saab Gripen in oil on canvas via the Vlasimir website, with a canvas price of € 400.
