Saabs from around the World

She’s definitely a “Saab Guy”

Motor nerd pays a visit to Sibylla & Lasse who have the whole house and garage full of SAAB stuff

We often write about car enthusiasts in this section of the blog, and of course especially Saab enthusiasts who live in different parts of the world, and most often they are men. But there are fewer women, and they can be said to be more car enthusiasts (in the world of Saab cars there are say Åse Kleveland, or Greta Molander, or Dayna of LA), and often better car connoisseurs than men.

This blog post is just dedicated to one such car lady, whose obsession is Saab cars. Her name is Sibylla Gustavsson, she lives in the Swedish district of Stockaryd, and she just adores Saab cars. She is the founder and most active member of several clubs in Sweden dedicated to classic Saab cars.

Sibylla is a regular visitor to all local Saab gatherings, and also participates and drives her Saab 96 at most classic car rallies. And that’s not all, she often wins those rallies. Sibylla Gustafsson, 58, lives in Stockaryd in Småland between Växjö and Jönköping. Previously worked as a flight technician at Arlanda, but what perhaps stands out most for an car enthusiast is her home which is full of Saab stuff.

As in the case of the famous literary and film hero Uwe, her father drove a Saab and for him there was no other brand either. It usually happens that you get stuck in what you grew up in, she says. Of the 50s Saab cars she owned, there is, among other things, a three-speed Arctic blue Saab 96 from 1961. She loves the shape of this car, and says that others think the same – when they get in this car they will be very happy.

Sibylla & Lasse have the house full of SAAB stuff

She shares her love for Saab cars with her partner Lasse and their home is full of Saab artifacts, from classic Saab cars, through miniature models, to Saab uniforms, rally helmets, mountains of spare parts for classic cars, and much more. It can simply be said that their home is actually a kind of Saab museum. We think this kind of thing is so extremely cool.

That is, collections and people who really go into 100% on a car brand or theme, do not really matter what it is. Then it is extra special when both the man and the woman share the same interest, which is very unusual in this industry (or life). If you could rank how much you are a car enthusiast, then this pair of exceptional people would be in the top elite! Sibylla and Lasse make up the SAAB 2-stroke team, and you can meet them at any classic car rally in Sweden and the surrounding area.

For over 15 years, Goran Aničić has been passionately focused on Saab automobiles and everything related to them. His initial encounter with Saab cars took place back in 2003 when the first Saab 9-3 and sedan version were introduced. At that moment, he was captivated by the car's Scandinavian design logic and top-notch engineering, and everything that followed stemmed from that first encounter. Later on, through his work at the editorial team of the Serbian automotive magazines "Autostart" and later "AutoBild," he had the opportunity to engage more closely with Saab vehicles. In 2008, he tested the latest Saab cars of that time, such as the Saab 9-3 TTiD Aero and Saab 9-3 Turbo X. In 2010, as the sole blogger from the region, he participated in the Saab 9-5ng presentation in Trollhättan, Sweden. Alongside journalists from around the world, he got a firsthand experience of the pinnacle of technological offerings from Saab at that time. Currently, Goran owns two Saabs: a 2008 Saab 9-3 Vector Sportcombi with a manual transmission, and a Saab 9-3 Aero Griffin Sport Sedan from the last generation, which rolled off the production line in Trollhättan in December 2011.
