Are you a true Saab enthusiast? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you. A historic Saab 9-5ng from the final generation is now up for auction. What makes this car truly special is that it is one of the ten pre-series cars hand-built by Saab, and it has never been registered.
Saab, known for its innovative designs and engineering, unveiled the last new model, the 9-5, at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009. The car received high praise from critics and the press for its comfort, driving performance, and timeless design. Many believed that this model would save Saab, but unfortunately, only 11,300 cars were produced before the company filed for bankruptcy. Today, the Saab 9-5 has become a cult car highly sought after by collectors.

The third car
Among the ten pre-series cars built by Saab, the first two were used for crash tests and have since been scrapped. The third car, however, was utilized for press tests and remains in existence. Now, this historic Saab, with chassis number three, is available for sale through Bidders Highway’s auction. Despite its use as a press car and covering 65,000 kolometers, it has never been officially registered. The car currently lacks a registration number and cannot be registered due to the absence of a Certificate of Conformity (COC) document.
While this unique Saab 9-5ng cannot be driven on public roads, it presents a thrilling opportunity for true Saab enthusiasts. It would make a perfect addition to a private Saab collection, where it can be admired and cherished. The car is well-preserved, with minor scratches on its exterior. Under the hood, you’ll find a two-liter, four-cylinder turbo diesel engine that delivers 160 horsepower.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to own a Saab 9-5 with chassis number 3 from the production line. It’s an object for the true Saab enthusiast and a piece of Swedish automotive history,” proclaims Bidders Highway.
In addition to the Swedish auction listing, the 2010 Saab 9-5 (Chassinummer 3) offers further insights. The second-generation Saab 9-5ng premiered at the Frankfurt Motor Show, with the first pre-series cars rolling off the production line in the fall of 2009. Approximately 11,300 cars were manufactured before Saab’s bankruptcy forced production to cease.
The car up for auction is particularly intriguing as it is an unreleased pre-series car used as a press vehicle. The first two cars were utilized for crash tests and subsequently scrapped, making this third car the first one made available for journalists to test.
Having covered around 65,000 kilometers, this Saab 9-5 ended up in the hands of a collector who now presents it for auction. The car has had three owners but has never been registered. Since it is a pre-series model, there is no Certificate of Conformity (COC) document available, rendering the car unregistrable.

I am surprised that this car isn’t being scheduled for placement in the SAAB museum. I own a 2010 SAAB 9-5 NG AERO. It is a great car however mine has more than a few bumps and scratches but it still loves to run at 180K+ miles! Thanks for sharing the story about this particular car and the two earlier vehicles.
