The TTiD Engine: A Convergence of Power and Environmental Consciousness
The TTiD engine in the Saab 9-3 is a rare blend of performance and eco-friendliness. Producing 400 Nm (180 hp) of torque, it offers an exhilarating driving experience, marked by swift acceleration and smooth highway cruising. Saab enthusiasts often note the engine’s remarkable balance of power and efficiency.
A Personal Journey with the Saab 9-3 TTiD
Jake Ryan’s journey with his Saab 9-3 Aero TTiD is a story of passion and dedication. Purchased in March 2020, this car has been a reliable companion for over 25,000 miles. It stands out not just for its performance but also for the personal touches Jake has added over the years.
Subtle Yet Significant Modifications
Understanding the common issues with the TTiD engine, Jake made some smart modifications. He removed the internals of the diesel particulate filter (DPF) while keeping the original pipe for MOT inspections. The problematic exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system was also blocked off. These changes enhanced the car’s performance and reliability without compromising its emissions compliance.
Exterior and Interior Upgrades: A Blend of Style and Function
The car boasts 19-inch VXR-style wheels and sits lower on Vogtland 35mm springs, adding to its sporty demeanor. A carbon fiber Hirsch-style spoiler complements the Aero model’s sleek bodywork. Inside, a Kenwood Apple CarPlay unit replaces the factory head unit, seamlessly integrated to maintain the OEM feel. The interior trims have been wrapped in carbon, adding a modern touch to the classic Saab interior.
Maintenance and Care: A Testament to Responsible Ownership
Jake’s meticulous care is evident in the car’s maintenance record. Recent updates include a new battery, rear brake discs, calipers, front drop links, brand new tires, and more. The car’s bodywork is in excellent condition, showcasing its black metallic finish, while the factory seats and interior trims remain well-preserved.
The Sale: A Reluctant Goodbye to a Beloved Saab
Now, Jake is parting with his beloved Saab 9-3 TTiD. Priced at £3250 and located in Alcester, B49, this car is a testament to Saab’s legacy and Jake’s dedication as an enthusiast. It’s more than just a vehicle; it’s a piece of automotive history, cherished and well-maintained.

I’m an enthusiastic myself of SAAB i have one and would love to exchange pictures of yours.. I just have one question? Can I get info on the rims like I would love to find a set for mine.
If you have read this thank your for taking the time.
I just would love the info on the rims.
Looks great, would buy without hesitation if I were across the pond. I think it converts to roughly 4100 American dollars which would be a steal. Just curious how many miles are on it? And why is Jake parting with it? Diesel prices here in Pennsylvania (all of USA) are high but it would still be worth having. We never get the fun models in this country.
Same, mileage? l agree it’s a killer deal and I’d party it right next to my block 06′ aero dropped and topped
Looks a great car.
Have driven a Saab for 40 years.
Had the latest 9.3 TTiD black too from new 13 years ago.
95,000 miles.
Love the car. Don’t know what I will do when I need to replace :o(

So on this page, you have admitted doing something illegal. Removing the dpf is like removing a cat from a petrol engine. It’s purpose is to reduce emissions
@Rw – Glad your comment on this point got through. Mine didn’t.
Environmental consciousness? Doesn’t removing the DPF internals add more particulates to the atmosphere? I have owned a 2011 9-3 ttid for 8 years and not had any problems with the DPF, now on 136k and I bought it on 68k
What a lovely car. My dad has the 9-3x with the same engine and I love driving around in it. I’m located in Dublin and would love to come over and have a look at it and potentially take it off your hands. Just wondering what is the mileage. My email is attached to this reply to if you can send me an email thank you.
What a nice modified swedish beauty. Very interested in picking it up and bring it home here in Switzerland. Would love to know the mileage and if it has a sliding roof.
The Ttid diesel engine is actually a Fiat design, however with some Saab twist of course. I had a couple of these as company cars at Saab TDC.
One of the world’s most unique car brand destroyed by GM. That Fiat engine is actually the worst thing any manufacturer could use in their cars. That brand should’ve been acquired by Porsche,BMW or even Toyota,so they could use their RWD and AWD platforms and have the freedom to develop their own Saab turbo engines. That Fiat crap is disgrace for a brand like Saab.
To Saab Planet >
when you mention “developed by Saab in cooperation….”,you meant probably developed fully by Fiat and GM and used by Saab. That engine is NOT developed by Saab hands down and full stop right there. There is no diesel engine developed by Saab, end of story. As for how reliable it is,there are hundreds of thousands reports of failed fuel pumps, overheating, worn out piston rings under 50k and so on. I been 15+ years Saab fan and owner of 900,9000 2.3 Turbo and 9-5 Griffin,so my knowledge about Saab is pretty sufficient ✌️
