EV Electra's Homecoming: A Fresh Blueprint for Electric Vehicle Production in Trollhättan

Emily GT prototype gleams as the future of EV Electra's electric ambitions, set to be crafted in the heart of Trollhättan.

A New Direction for EV Electra

EV Electra, driven by the dynamic leadership of Jihad M. Mohammad, has been steering through various strategic considerations regarding the production of its electric vehicles based on the Emily GT prototype. Recent developments indicate a pivotal shift towards establishing a manufacturing hub in Trollhättan, not within the old confines of the Saab factory, but in a new space ripe with potential.

Trollhättan’s Industrial Zone: A New Automotive Birthplace

The industrial zone adjacent to the former Saab factory, owned by the city of Trollhättan, has emerged as the new focal point for EV Electra’s ambitious manufacturing plans. This move signifies a preference for building a modern factory on their own terms, rather than leasing existing facilities.

The Economic Calculus: Investing in the Future

Jihad M. Mohammad’s recent statements elucidate the economic rationale behind this strategic move. “Do you want to invest 500 million in someone else’s building?” he posits, highlighting the cost-effectiveness of constructing a new facility. This forward-looking approach prioritizes long-term asset ownership over short-term rental agreements.

EV Electra has extended an offer to the city for a portion of the industrial zone. This proposal not only promises a return on investment for the city but also pledges to make Trollhättan a comprehensive hub for EV Electra’s operations, encompassing both the engineering department and the production lines.

A Vision for Trollhättan’s Revival

Mohammad expresses optimism about the city’s response, banking on the shared desire for Trollhättan’s economic and social revitalization. The proposed modern factory is not just a production site but a beacon for innovation and community development.

His initial encounter with Saab cars took place back in 2003 when the first Saab 9-3 and sedan version were introduced. At that moment, he was captivated by the car's Scandinavian design logic and top-notch engineering, and everything that followed stemmed from that first encounter. Later on, through his work at the editorial team of the Serbian automotive magazines "Autostart" and later "AutoBild," he had the opportunity to engage more closely with Saab vehicles. In 2008, he tested the latest Saab cars of that time, such as the Saab 9-3 TTiD Aero and Saab 9-3 Turbo X. In 2010, as the sole blogger from the region, he participated in the Saab 9-5ng presentation in Trollhättan, Sweden. Alongside journalists from around the world, he got a firsthand experience of the pinnacle of technological offerings from Saab at that time. Currently, Goran owns two Saabs: a 2008 Saab 9-3 Vector Sportcombi with a manual transmission, and a Saab 9-3 Aero Griffin Sport Sedan from the last generation, which rolled off the production line in Trollhättan in December 2011.

  • I’m sure the Uusikaupunki factory in Finland could set up a production line on short notice. And it would be in line with the Saab heritage.

  • Difficult to make up one’s opinion about the pertinence of the plan. Let’s give it a chance. This case is maybe different as the guy is not from the automotive world. Look at Tesla, what ever you think about it, they produce they sell, the cars are quite good. You see them everywhere. The guy is risking his money so I guess I thinks about it carefully how to spent it.
