In the quaint town of Apeldoorn, the Netherlands, a remarkable story of automotive revival unfolds at the AutoFirst Saab dealership. This narrative isn’t just about selling cars; it’s about rekindling the essence of classic elegance. The star of this story is the 2007 SAAB 9-3 2.0 Turbo Vector Convertible Special Edition nr. 2, a car that not only continues the legacy of its predecessor, the Hunter Green   Saab 9-3 convertible, but also takes it to new heights.

The Inspiration: Melding Porsche Elegance with SAAB Performance

The journey to creating this special edition was a deliberate one, inspired by the dealership’s admiration for both SAAB’s engineering excellence and Porsche’s iconic design language. This inspiration led to the selection of the Gentian Blue Metallic color, a hue deeply rooted in Porsche’s palette, known for its depth and the way it dances with sunlight. But it wasn’t just about the color; it was about bringing a level of sophistication and detail that could rival any luxury sports car.

A Symphony in Design: The Exterior and Interior Makeover

The transformation of this SAAB convertible is comprehensive. Starting with the exterior, the car was given a new lease of life with a complete respray in the captivating Gentian Blue. This choice was complemented by select exterior details in Porsche’s Platinum Grey with a satin finish, evident in the Turbo-X front lip and the sleek 18” Turbine wheels. The addition of a new double exhaust and a sporty rear spoiler further accentuates its athletic yet elegant stance.

The interior of the car echoes the exterior’s luxury with a complete overhaul. The seats and backrests were replaced with new, original SAAB leather, featuring a unique striping pattern that aligns with the black inserts in the door panels. This meticulous attention to detail extends to the driving controls, with a new gear shift cover and knob, enhancing the tactile experience of the driver.

For over 15 years, Goran Aničić has been passionately focused on Saab automobiles and everything related to them. His initial encounter with Saab cars took place back in 2003 when the first Saab 9-3 and sedan version were introduced. At that moment, he was captivated by the car's Scandinavian design logic and top-notch engineering, and everything that followed stemmed from that first encounter. Later on, through his work at the editorial team of the Serbian automotive magazines "Autostart" and later "AutoBild," he had the opportunity to engage more closely with Saab vehicles. In 2008, he tested the latest Saab cars of that time, such as the Saab 9-3 TTiD Aero and Saab 9-3 Turbo X. In 2010, as the sole blogger from the region, he participated in the Saab 9-5ng presentation in Trollhättan, Sweden. Alongside journalists from around the world, he got a firsthand experience of the pinnacle of technological offerings from Saab at that time. Currently, Goran owns two Saabs: a 2008 Saab 9-3 Vector Sportcombi with a manual transmission, and a Saab 9-3 Aero Griffin Sport Sedan from the last generation, which rolled off the production line in Trollhättan in December 2011.

  • Might be manufactured 2007 but the model year is 2008.

We have pre-facelift NG9-3CV manufactured in 7/2007 with L06 seats.
That was the last month when pre-facelift models were manufactured in Graz, Austria.
After that they started manufacturing facelifted MY2008.

    • It’s a 2007 that got a facelift. It’s a TX front bumper but the grills are not TX.
      The taillights are stil MY07.

  • I have a 2008, original owner. I love my SAAB! Drives great still looks good. Need to be painted and a few tlc touches. Regular maintenace. Wish they were still manufactured.

    • I am second owner of 2008 saab 9-3 sport sedan it drives great done 327 thousand kays …..I hope it lasts forever and I do service every10,000 kays

  • A very nice car, but the craftsmanship on the leather seats is obviously quite poor judging by the photos. And this car will not be able to get the official youngtimer status when it is 35 years old because of all the changes. Which is also quite sad.

  • Nice car.I always liked Saabs from around 1978 until the end, especially the 900 Turbo convertible in red. This convertible is real nice.Somebody has 2 revive the name and start making new Saabs, like the new Renaults,Citrones, and Peugeots, which unfortunately they don’t sell here in the US.

  • Saab vas, is a great car. Sad that the factory is not open eny more. Where would saab been today. It vas a future-car 2007…before it’s time.

  • Nice but the apart them being black the stripes in the seats are not that unique they look the same as in the blue ones in the Cureleans.
