The Saab Automobile brand has long captivated automotive enthusiasts with its unique blend of innovation, design, and performance. Even after its official production ended, the passion for Saab continues to thrive within the global community of car enthusiasts.

A pivotal part of this ongoing legacy is now being preserved and extended by Matthew Resendes through the creation of the NEVS Electronic Parts Catalogue (NEVS EPC). This independent project aims to document and make accessible a wealth of information on NEVS parts and accessories, ensuring that the history and components of these last-generation Saabs are not lost to time.

The Birth of NEVS EPC: A Passion Project

The NEVS Electronic Parts Catalogue is more than just a collection of part numbers and diagrams—it’s a testament to the dedication of one Saab enthusiast who sought to fill a gap in the community. Matthew Resendes, the brain behind this project, has been a long-time devotee of Saab, with his journey beginning with a 2006 Saab 9-3 2.0T. Over the years, this vehicle has undergone various transformations, from an Aero clone to a facelifted model, incorporating rare and unique parts along the way.

Matthew’s interest in NEVS (National Electric Vehicle Sweden) and the parts it produced grew out of his deep-rooted passion for Saab. After acquiring a set of 9-3 Electric headlights, his fascination with NEVS components only intensified. Recognizing a lack of comprehensive documentation for these parts, Matthew launched the Facebook group “Are those NEVS parts on a Saab?” in 2023. This group became a hub for Saab and NEVS enthusiasts, fostering international collaboration and discussion about these rare components.

A Natural Continuation of Saab’s Legacy

For many, NEVS represents the continuation of Saab’s legacy, as the company took over the brand’s assets after Saab’s bankruptcy. NEVS aimed to keep the spirit of Saab alive by producing electric vehicles and maintaining a focus on innovation and quality. Although NEVS faced its challenges, including limited production runs and difficulties in gaining market traction, it managed to leave its mark on automotive history with the creation of unique parts and vehicles.

The NEVS EPC project is dedicated to preserving this chapter of Saab’s history. By documenting NEVS parts, Matthew is not only keeping the memory of these vehicles alive but also providing valuable resources to Saab owners who wish to retrofit their cars with these modern components. This effort is crucial for ensuring that the innovations introduced by NEVS are not forgotten and can continue to benefit the Saab community for years to come.

Exploring the NEVS EPC: What’s Inside?

The NEVS Electronic Parts Catalogue is meticulously organized into three main sections: Exterior, Interior, and Accessories. Each section provides detailed information about the parts, including part numbers, diagrams, and potential retrofit solutions for older Saab models. This structure allows users to easily navigate through the catalogue and find the specific components they need.

  • Exterior: This section includes all external parts, from body panels to lighting components. One of the highlights is the documentation of the 9-3 Electric headlights, which have become a sought-after upgrade for Saab enthusiasts looking to modernize their vehicles’ appearance.
  • Interior: Here, users can find information on various interior components, from dashboard elements to seating options. The focus is on maintaining the distinct Saab feel while incorporating NEVS innovations that enhance comfort and usability.

Building a Global Community of Saab Enthusiasts

The NEVS EPC project is not just about preserving parts; it’s about building a global community. Matthew encourages Saab and NEVS enthusiasts from around the world to contribute to the catalogue by submitting information about parts they’ve acquired or modifications they’ve made. This collaborative approach ensures that the NEVS EPC remains a living document, continuously updated with the latest discoveries and innovations.

Matthew’s commitment to this project is evident in the time and effort he dedicates to researching and uploading new content. While the project is currently a one-man show, the support from the community through contributions and donations helps keep it alive. The NEVS EPC website also features a portfolio section where enthusiasts can showcase their vehicles, further fostering a sense of connection and shared passion among Saab fans.

A Unique Resource for Saab and NEVS Enthusiasts

One of the most remarkable aspects of the NEVS EPC is its uniqueness. As the only public knowledgebase dedicated to NEVS parts, it fills a critical niche in the Saab community. While Saab’s official Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) is readily available, it doesn’t cover the parts produced during the NEVS era. Matthew’s initiative bridges this gap, offering a resource that is invaluable for both Saab purists and those interested in blending the old with the new.

  • They should offer transformation kits from combustion to electric for NG9-3 and also for NG9-5 if Emily parts can be refitted to NG9-5.
Thus SAAB owners could keep on driving in areas where they’ve gone hostile towards combustion engines (petrol, diesel).
