Australian rally enthusiast Mark Horwood, who lives in Perth, loves rally driving and recently mainly uses a Saab 9-5 as a car for Rally competitions, for several reasons. Even in his early youth, he started driving old cars and motorcycles around his farm when he was only 14 years old. After quite a lot of driving experience, he quickly became interested in car competitions, especially rally races.
At the time, when he was starting his rally career, it was easy to get a rally license from the Confederation of Australian Motorsport. From then to now, things have changed drastically, so now you have to be an exceptionally good driver.
Saab is the most reliable and safest for rally competitions
As he himself states, When he started driving competitively, he had a Mini Cooper S, and after the Mini he bought a Mitsubishi Galant. This latter choice was far more comfortable and quite fast, but not as sturdy (which means potentially dangerous). Today, Mark only drives old Saab 9-5 sedans because they have front wheel drive and a strong body with a solid integrated roll cage.
Humanitarian Rallies
For rallying purposes, his own company Captivate Connect is the most common sponsor, and his co-drivers change from event to event. Mark likes to compete in the rally, because of the surprise that this type of competition brings with it, but also for the purpose of raising funds and awareness for charities that need support.
Mark competed in the Rally WA Championship in his youth and today competes in charity fundraisers. Thanks to good people and motoring enthusiasts, 100,000 dollars was collected in just one rally to help those for whom this humanitarian aid is intended. Mark’s goal is to He wants to raise a million dollars before he retires.
In addition to the humanitarian character, participating in rallies of this type is a great pleasure and enjoyment for Mark. Because of all this, he said the following in an interview for “Financial Review”: “We are here for a good time, not for a long time – so do what you do with passion and gusto.” So, listen to Mark’s advice, enjoy life, help others and drive Saab cars.
