Wilmington, Delaware, which is located along the Delaware River downstream of Philadelphia, is the home of Bill Jacobson Sports Car Service – Delaware’s oldest independent SAAB specialist.
Sports Car Service, which is owned and operated by the same family Jacobson , has been an Independent Saab Specialist for over 50 years.
Bill has worked with Saab his whole life and is a specialist in the proper sense (it should also be mentioned that he sells Subarus). His company has a showroom which is actually a real treasure.
His Father, John was originally responsible for getting the business off the ground since the first owner passed away just prior to 1961, the same year that SAAB Motors, Inc. moved their operations from Hingham, Massachusetts to 100 Waterfront Street, New Haven, Connecticut. Mr. Jacobson also has four sisters, one of which now runs Saab of Baltimore and the first SAAB 96 that she drove resides in his showroom, in good overall shape.
Here they have the very first Saab Sonett sold on the US market back in 1957, and the very first Saab car that was physically sold in the United States. The latter was completely disassembled, but we think it was a Saab 92.
Bill bought the Sonnet from GM’s collection after the bankruptcy. It was basically him and another guy who bought the whole collection, even though Bill’s biggest goal was to bring home the Sonett – the star of his private collection.
