Saabs from around the World

Brenda’s short Saab story

Brenda's favorite cars are the Saab 99 and 900 SPG

Maybe Brenda’s Saab story we’re telling you is short, but it’s therefore long-lasting and interesting. The story is interesting because it reminds of many stories of Saab enthusiasts around the world, and it always starts with the first Saab that was acquired some 40 or even 50 years ago.

And since then, these loyal followers of the Swedish brand have no dilemma – they only drive Saab cars, of all models and generations. Above all, Saab cars are becoming a family tradition, as is the case with the Brenda family.

She shared her story on one of the many Saab web forums, and we are transmitting it here to keep it from being forgotten, and how this story would inspire some new future generations of Saab car fans.

And here’s how the Saab story began and ran in Brenda’s case. In 1980, while picking up parts at the Indianapolis, IN Saab dealer for her boyfriend’s dad’s 1974 Saab 99LE She discovered her dream car — the 5 door Saab 99 Combicoupe. What a car! Did she get one? They were no longer imported and rare as hen’s teeth. So, nope. Her Boyfriend became her husband in 1982 and they bought the 74 (4 doors) 99LE from Dad and enjoyed it for many miles (almost 500K) and many years (until 2006).

In the late ’80s, while picking up parts at the San Diego, CA Saab dealer for their 1985 Saab 900S (4 door), her husband discovered another dream car to covet: The 900 SPG. Did they buy one? No. They already had two great Saabs — the 99 and the 900 and kept both for a very long time.

A couple of years ago, they purchased both dream cars – a 1977 Saab 99GL Combicoupe 5 doors and a 1988 Saab 900 SPG. Lots of projects on the 99, and a paint job for the SPG brings us to today. They’re happily driving around in their “Dream” cars. Sure, the dreams were like, oh, 35-40 years ago! But it’s fun to be driving them now.

You can see it in Brenda’s picture of her husband in the SPG pulling into the parking spot next to the 99 Combicoupe in their marina.

This is such a typical, so lovely, and realistic story of the average lover of these beautiful cars.

For over 15 years, Goran Aničić has been passionately focused on Saab automobiles and everything related to them. His initial encounter with Saab cars took place back in 2003 when the first Saab 9-3 and sedan version were introduced. At that moment, he was captivated by the car's Scandinavian design logic and top-notch engineering, and everything that followed stemmed from that first encounter. Later on, through his work at the editorial team of the Serbian automotive magazines "Autostart" and later "AutoBild," he had the opportunity to engage more closely with Saab vehicles. In 2008, he tested the latest Saab cars of that time, such as the Saab 9-3 TTiD Aero and Saab 9-3 Turbo X. In 2010, as the sole blogger from the region, he participated in the Saab 9-5ng presentation in Trollhättan, Sweden. Alongside journalists from around the world, he got a firsthand experience of the pinnacle of technological offerings from Saab at that time. Currently, Goran owns two Saabs: a 2008 Saab 9-3 Vector Sportcombi with a manual transmission, and a Saab 9-3 Aero Griffin Sport Sedan from the last generation, which rolled off the production line in Trollhättan in December 2011.
