The Saab car club in Canada is excited to announce its upcoming Winter Tour 2023, the “City and ‘Burbs Edition.” This event is set to take place on January 29th from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm EST and is open to all, but organiyers encourage non-members to consider joining the club.

Founded in 1978, the Saab Club of Canada is a non-profit organization dedicated to Saab owners’ enjoyment of their automobile in a convivial atmosphere. One of the key goals of the Saab Club of Canada is to provide a community for Saab enthusiasts to come together and share their passion for these unique and distinctive cars. The club also aims to promote the preservation and restoration of Saab automobiles, as well as to provide a source of technical and historical information for its members.

The club’s membership is diverse and includes Saab owners from all walks of life, from those who have just purchased their first Saab to experienced enthusiasts who have owned several. The club welcomes all Saab models, from the classic 900s and 9000s to the more recent 9-3 and 9-5 models.

This year, club members are doing something a bit different and taking a tour through the city and suburbs on some interesting roads that you may have only been on if you live in the area. Their starting point is the parking lot for Amesbury Arena, located at 145 Culford Rd. If you’re coming from the west on the 401, take the Black Creek Drive exit and turn left onto Lawrence Ave W., and then turn right at the second traffic light onto Culford.

If you live in Canada or the northern part of the USA, and you want to join this gathering, then If you’re coming from the east on the 401, exit at Keele, go south to Lawrence Ave W., turn right on Lawrence, and turn left at the second traffic light onto Culford. The parking lot is just past the arena on the left-hand side.

Please arrive by 10:45 am for the driver’s meeting so that those gathered can depart at 11 am sharp. The tour will take approximately 2.5 hours, with an end point at Stonehooker Brewery, on Lakeshore Rd between Dixie and Cawthra. This brewery brews and sells a wide variety of beers and can supply you with cans or large or small growlers.

Some of the tour’s highlights include:

  • Remarkable views and travel roads that may remind you of San Francisco
  • Visiting an environmentally questionable area
  • Touring locations with a tragic history
  • Traveling through middle-class, posh, and rapidly ‘mansionifying’ suburbs
  • Taking in waterfront views (weather permitting)
  • Visiting a cottage community founded in 1885
  • Viewing a massive waterfront redevelopment in Mississauga

The organizers ask everyone who will be present to bring clothing and footwear suitable for the weather and short walks (10 to 20 minutes maximum) on park paths. The tour will be on urban streets, with a stretch of freeway driving, but there will be many steep grades and sharp curves on the route. Good winter tires are strongly recommended.

For over 15 years, Goran Aničić has been passionately focused on Saab automobiles and everything related to them. His initial encounter with Saab cars took place back in 2003 when the first Saab 9-3 and sedan version were introduced. At that moment, he was captivated by the car's Scandinavian design logic and top-notch engineering, and everything that followed stemmed from that first encounter. Later on, through his work at the editorial team of the Serbian automotive magazines "Autostart" and later "AutoBild," he had the opportunity to engage more closely with Saab vehicles. In 2010, as the sole blogger from the region, he participated in the Saab 9-5ng presentation in Trollhättan, Sweden. Alongside journalists from around the world, he got a firsthand experience of the pinnacle of technological offerings from Saab at that time. Currently, Goran owns two Saabs: a 2008 Saab 9-3 Vector Sportcombi with a manual transmission, and a Saab 9-3 Aero Griffin Sport Sedan from the last generation, which rolled off the production line in Trollhättan in December 2011.
