Recently, we have witnessed rising prices of new cars, but also rising prices of used cars, both in the local and global market. In the case of new cars, the problem is with the supply chains from China as a global supplier of car parts, and the lack of chips for various car computers has been pointed out.
The causes are numerous, and the most characteristic during the previous three years was the global pandemic of the Covid-19 virus. As a result, due to the lack of new cars on the market and long waiting lists for purchases, used cars have become more expensive based on higher demand.
The same thing happened with classic cars, whose prices are rising, and even Saab cars, which were not something that was especially in demand. In the last few months, we have witnessed several auctions of classic Saab cars whose auctioned price exceeded $ 50,000. Only one in a series of such auctions with high prices, but certainly not the last, ended today when the low-mileage Saab 900 Aero was sold for over 55,000 US dollars!
The auction price started at some 300 thousand SEK, and seven days ago, when we wrote on this blog about this auction, it reached 436 thousand SEK, and today the auction ended with a price of 536 thousand SEK, which is just over 55 thousand US dollars.
It was the winning bid in the battle for the 900 after a low-intensity but determined bidding round between two enthusiasts – which lasted for over half an hour, after a bid battle just before the auction was to end. To the price must be added 5 percent in strike fee. To remind you, the last time Bilweb Auctions auctioned off a 900 Turbo Aero, two years ago, the winning bid was SEK 270,500.
After all, the facts are as follows, A Saab 900 Aero that has not even traveled 3,000 miles in 35 years has been sold for more than twice as much as it was estimated to be worth. Classic cars with extremely low mileage have attracted huge amounts at Swedish auctions recently. An example is the Saab 96 which only rolled 7 km and was sold for SEK 500,000. Earlier in March, a much newer Saab appeared at auction in the form of a 900 Aero from 1987 with only 2,901 miles on the clock. The car has been owned by one and the same user since new and is mostly driven in the summer.
