The Spirit of Saab
Saab, once a prominent automaker renowned for its innovative designs and engineering excellence, faced a tragic fate when it declared bankruptcy in 2011. However, despite the end of its production, the Saab spirit remained very much alive, as evidenced by the thriving Saab Club Nederland. The club’s members, and indeed Saab enthusiasts worldwide, have kept the brand’s legacy alive through their unwavering dedication and appreciation for these unique vehicles.
Caretaker Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s affinity for his Saab 9.3 Estate further highlights the enduring appeal of Saab cars. His choice to drive a Saab is a testament to the brand’s lasting impact, even among influential figures in the political landscape.
NatSaab – The Gathering of Saab Lovers
NatSaab, an eagerly anticipated event on the Saab enthusiasts’ calendar, promises to be a day filled with excitement, camaraderie, and a nostalgic trip down memory lane. The gathering will feature a grand Tableau de la Saab, showcasing an impressive array of Saab cars, from vintage classics to modern models. Attendees will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich history of Saab as they explore the meticulously parked Saabs, each with its own unique story to tell.
The heart of the event will be the extensive parts market, attracting both Saab specialists and private individuals. Here, participants can discover rare spare parts, exchange valuable knowledge, and discuss their shared passion for these iconic automobiles. This marketplace not only fosters a sense of community but also helps keep the legacy of Saab alive by ensuring that these cars continue to run smoothly on the roads.
SaabShowCase and Insightful Talks
The SaabShowCase promises to be a true highlight of NatSaab, offering visitors the opportunity to admire a one-of-a-kind Saab that has been specially brought over from Sweden for this occasion. This unique display will provide attendees with a glimpse into Saab’s rich heritage and innovation.
Throughout the day, various speakers will take the stage, offering captivating insights into the world of Saab. Topics will range from the art of tuning Saabs to innovative approaches to “recycling” a Saab with a new engine. Additionally, Karl Wevers, former director at the Dutch Saab importer, will delve into the past, present, and future of the brand, including the exciting developments at NEVS (National Electric Vehicle Sweden), Saab’s legal successor.
The NEVS Connection
NEVS’ endeavors to revive the Saab legacy have sparked considerable interest and excitement within the Saab community. Recent revelations about the Emily GT, a revolutionary electric car to be produced in the old Saab factory in Trolhättan, Sweden, have captured the imagination of Saab enthusiasts worldwide. Developed by former Saab personnel and featuring striking Saab traits, this upcoming electric car promises to honor the brand’s traditions while embracing a sustainable future.
Tombola for a Worthy Cause
NatSaab 2023 will not only be a celebration of cars and camaraderie but also an opportunity for Saab enthusiasts to give back to the community. The event will feature a tombola where numerous unique Saab items will be raffled off, with all proceeds going to the Odensehuis Amsterdam. This specialized house offers a place and a voice to people with dementia, demonstrating the caring and charitable nature of the Saab community.
