Reviving Saab’s Vision: SAC’s Exclusive Rearview Camera Upgrade for the Saab 9-5 NG

Enhance Your Saab 9-5 NG with SAC’s Exclusive Rearview Camera Retrofit: The Perfect Blend of Factory Precision and Modern Convenience.

Seamlessly integrated: The original Saab 9-5 NG rearview camera brings factory precision to every drive.

For Saab enthusiasts in Taiwan, the Scandinavia Asia Corporation (SAC) has unveiled an exciting new option for the Saab 9-5 NG: a factory-grade rearview camera retrofit. This exclusive offer brings the original, unfulfilled vision of Saab’s rearview camera to life, making it accessible to Taiwan’s loyal Saab community. Originally designed for the 2012 models, the retrofit honors Saab’s engineering excellence and adds valuable functionality to this beloved vehicle.

The History Behind Saab’s Unused Rearview Camera Technology

Back in 2011, Saab engineers were on the cusp of introducing a new set of features, including a reversing camera, adaptive cruise control, and refined interior options for the 2012 Saab 9-5 NG. Sadly, these innovations were never factory-installed as Saab production ceased prematurely. This missed opportunity left fans wondering what could have been if these options had seen the light of day. SAC’s initiative now offers a glimpse into that potential, allowing owners to experience the precision and convenience that the 2012 model year might have offered.

Unique Compatibility Challenges: Taiwan’s Tailored Solution

Taiwanese Saab 9-5 NG models faced a unique hurdle: the infotainment system software differed from that of other markets. This prevented the seamless integration of the rearview camera when owners attempted aftermarket installations.

However, after considerable negotiation, SAC collaborated with Saab’s original technical department in Sweden, successfully obtaining a customized software update specifically for Taiwan’s market. This update allows 9-5 NG owners to install the original Saab rearview camera and experience the intended display quality and functionality on their 8-inch screens.

Installation Details: Factory-Precision Retrofit for a Factory-Grade Experience

This exclusive retrofit is as close to factory as it gets. The camera is discreetly embedded within the rear light LED strip, just as it would have been in a 2012 production model. Installation involves routing the original wiring set across the vehicle and activating the camera software.

This level of precision requires skilled expertise, and SAC’s dedicated service centers across Taiwan provide that expertise to ensure each installation is seamless.

Key Benefits of the SAC Rearview Camera Retrofit:

  • Enhanced maneuverability with precise, real-time camera feed
  • Factory-quality integration for uncompromised functionality
  • Ease of use via the on-board system menu, just as Saab intended

Advantages of the Factory Reversing Camera for Real-World Driving

The 9-5 NG’s design, with its bold, aerodynamic rear, limits rear visibility, making the rearview camera an invaluable addition for close-quarters navigation and parking. With Taiwan’s urban settings and tight spaces, this camera aids drivers in achieving precision down to the centimeter, especially useful when aligning trailers or backing into challenging spots.

The installation also includes warning symbols and a multi-stage warning triangle display on the screen, which further enhances safety and driver confidence. Although it lacks the dynamic parking guides found in later systems, this feature is a worthwhile investment for any 9-5 NG owner who values enhanced situational awareness.

How to Access This Exclusive Offer

SAC has made this feature available at a special rate for Saab enthusiasts who want to bring their Saab 9-5 NG closer to the fully realized model Saab envisioned in 2012. The retrofit can be arranged through any of SAC’s seven Saab service centers across Taiwan, each equipped with the tools and expertise to deliver this specialized upgrade.

Thanks to SAC’s commitment, Taiwan’s Saab community can continue to enjoy a modernized driving experience that stays true to Saab’s vision and values.

His initial encounter with Saab cars took place back in 2003 when the first Saab 9-3 and sedan version were introduced. At that moment, he was captivated by the car's Scandinavian design logic and top-notch engineering, and everything that followed stemmed from that first encounter. Later on, through his work at the editorial team of the Serbian automotive magazines "Autostart" and later "AutoBild," he had the opportunity to engage more closely with Saab vehicles. In 2008, he tested the latest Saab cars of that time, such as the Saab 9-3 TTiD Aero and Saab 9-3 Turbo X. In 2010, as the sole blogger from the region, he participated in the Saab 9-5ng presentation in Trollhättan, Sweden. Alongside journalists from around the world, he got a firsthand experience of the pinnacle of technological offerings from Saab at that time. Currently, Goran owns two Saabs: a 2008 Saab 9-3 Vector Sportcombi with a manual transmission, and a Saab 9-3 Aero Griffin Sport Sedan from the last generation, which rolled off the production line in Trollhättan in December 2011.

  • By the way you don’t need to have a Taiwan market Saab. You can add (as I did couple of years ago) camera to your media system but you need to find someone with MDI (any GM/Opel service) to check one box in menu to enable camera.

  • I don’t know how to do any of that. I don’t have the navigational dashboard; I’ve got the green-lit one. I’ll maybe look for a solution.

  • To @edward_of_leithen
if you have a green one it’s easier to swap it with Android system. You will get cameras, navigation, music streaming services, nice touchscreen. You will be able to control it from the wheel buttons but some original buttons will be disabled. Anyway it’s far better than green one

  • Can this camera be installed on a North American Saab 9-5 XWD Aero? Most importantly with the Software and electrically!
