Reviving the Saab 9-3 Legacy: KM-tronics Brings Back the Iconic Rear Diffuser with Modern Precision

The Saab 9-3 rear diffuser (PN: 32025847) is making a comeback thanks to KM-tronics. A faithful replica of the original part, it is enhanced with stronger materials and designed to meet the needs of Saab enthusiasts worldwide.

The Saab 9-3 rear diffuser, a part coveted by enthusiasts for its distinct design and functionality, is making a much-anticipated return. Thanks to KM-tronics, a Saab OEM parts specialist, this iconic component—known officially as PN: 32025847—is being carefully replicated for modern production. While Saab ceased manufacturing over a decade ago, KM-tronics has undertaken the task of bringing this essential part back to life with modern materials and innovative methods.

Faithful Replica Based on the Original Design

To ensure authenticity, KM-tronics founder Mark van Kampen started with an OEM diffuser from one of his own Saab 9-3s, which he meticulously 3D scanned to create a digital model. Using this data, KM-tronics developed a polyurethane (PU) mold, which is now being used to produce prototypes for rigorous testing.

Mark explained the process:

“Once we confirm the prototypes are strong enough and meet all requirements, we will move to an aluminum mold for the final production version.”

This modern production method ensures the replica diffuser will retain the original’s design and functionality while offering greater durability thanks to improved materials.

A Modern Solution to a Long-Standing Problem

The original PN: 32025847 rear diffuser has been out of production for years, leaving many Saab 9-3 owners struggling to find a replacement. KM-tronics’ replica is not just a cosmetic addition—it’s a functional and structural enhancement for the vehicle, designed to meet the demands of both daily driving and high-performance use.

The updated diffuser will be compatible with single-exit exhaust systems and can accommodate exhaust pipe sizes of 2 inches or 2.5 inches, providing flexibility for enthusiasts who have customized their vehicles.

Overcoming Challenges in Production

Replicating such a detailed and complex part has presented significant challenges. The straight stripes and notches in the diffuser’s design required precise 3D modeling and engineering to replicate accurately. KM-tronics has conducted thorough prototype testing, ensuring the replica diffuser can withstand temperatures up to 130°C and remain durable at speeds of up to 250 km/h.

His initial encounter with Saab cars took place back in 2003 when the first Saab 9-3 and sedan version were introduced. At that moment, he was captivated by the car's Scandinavian design logic and top-notch engineering, and everything that followed stemmed from that first encounter. Later on, through his work at the editorial team of the Serbian automotive magazines "Autostart" and later "AutoBild," he had the opportunity to engage more closely with Saab vehicles. In 2008, he tested the latest Saab cars of that time, such as the Saab 9-3 TTiD Aero and Saab 9-3 Turbo X. In 2010, as the sole blogger from the region, he participated in the Saab 9-5ng presentation in Trollhättan, Sweden. Alongside journalists from around the world, he got a firsthand experience of the pinnacle of technological offerings from Saab at that time. Currently, Goran owns two Saabs: a 2008 Saab 9-3 Vector Sportcombi with a manual transmission, and a Saab 9-3 Aero Griffin Sport Sedan from the last generation, which rolled off the production line in Trollhättan in December 2011.
