The Finns never had their own big car brand, but this fine example of automotive history was the closest we got to having their own car. The Saab Club of Finland tells quite a story about the relationship of us Finns and their Saabs:
It has over 4000 members across the country, making it the biggest Saab owners club in the world.
They cannot thank Petteri Virtanen, the President of the Saab Club of Finland, enough. His insights and knowledge about the brand’s history was amazing and actually quite inspirational.
Alongside their four times a year publication, the Saabisti magazine, the club organizes local gatherings as well as international events, the last of which was attended by Saab drivers from almost 20 countries. The next big international gathering will be held at 2021.
This is just one of many similar Saab stories from Finland, by Finnish Car Guys blog and the Youtube channel of all things automotive in Finland:
The Finnish Saab Club Association or Saab Club of Finland (Suomen Saab-klubi ry) is an association founded in 1990, whose members share interest in Saab cars – old or newer.
Thanks for the publicity 🙂👍

It was the only Saab car not built in Sweden, also I believe it’s the only Saab car to share it’s 90 name with a Saab Aircraft. Built as an entry level car, by Valmet in Finland, it had a percentage of locally supplied components to avoid high Finnish import duty. Fairly rare in the UK, I had a Cherry red one some years ago.
Didn’t know a 90 with sunroof existed? Thought they were all super-basic?

Many installed these “Finlandia” sunroofs later. It was a popular upgrade for any car in those days.

thanks, I can understand that. After 20 years of Saabs with sunroof I have 9-5 Aero Estate now without it and I miss it a lot!
