Saab 900 With Less Than 400 km on the Clock Sold for $145,000!

246-Mile 1987 Saab 900 Turbo Convertible 5-Speed

In the last year or two, we have witnessed the appearance at auctions around the world of exceptionally well-preserved examples of classic Saab cars. And what is interesting is that their price is getting higher and higher, so some exceptional examples of Saab cars have been sold for more than 50,000 dollars.

And that this phenomenon is not an exception is proven by another fantastic Saab 900 Convertible that appeared for sale on the website bringatrailer.com.

For those who may not be familiar with these classic cars, or the class of youngtimers as they are called in Germany, here is some information about this Saab series. The Saab 900 is a mid-range car that Saab produced from 1978 to 1998 in two generations. The first was produced from 1978 to 1993, and the second from 1994 to 1998.

The first generation car was based on the Saab 99 chassis, but with a longer front end to meet US frontal crash regulations. The 900 model was produced as a sedan with two and four doors and in hatchback configurations with three and five doors, and from 1986 also as a convertible.

1987 Saab 900 Turbo Convertible

This 1987 Saab 900 Turbo Convertible has 246 miles on the clock (just under 400 km) and was purchased by the seller in June 2021 from the original owner. The car is in Cherry Red color with tan leather in the interior and is powered by a two-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine paired with a five-speed manual transmission.

Equipment includes a black retractable soft top, 15-inch alloy wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, air conditioning, cruise control, heated front seats and a factory Clarion radio cassette player.

This 900 Turbo Convertible is offered by the seller with a roof rack, jack, manufacturer’s literature, previous registrations data, service records, and with accident free Carfax report.

The car is equipped with a black retractable soft top and a heated rear window. Additional details include front fog lights, black body moldings, Turbo badges on the fenders, splash guards and a single exhaust port. Additional close-up images showing the markings, lighting and decorations can be viewed in the images.

15-inch aluminum wheels with a silver finish and Pirelli P6 tires. The seller states that the tires should be replaced before using the car due to its age, and braking is done using discs on all four wheels with a servo. Work in January 2022 included replacing the brake hoses and flushing the brake fluid.

The interior has seating surfaces trimmed in brown leather to match the color of the lower dash, door panels and carpets. A black three-spoke steering wheel frames instruments that include a speedometer engraved at 125 mph, an analog clock and auxiliary gauges. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows just 246 miles.

The sixteen-valve engine with the designation B202 develops 162 horsepower and 255 Nm of torque with the help of a turbocharger with an intercooler. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. Work in 2022 included removing and cleaning the fuel tank, flushing the coolant and hydraulic clutch fluid, changing the oil and replacing the fuel pump, thermostat and head gasket and bolts.

Two days ago, the offered price reached 50,000 dollars, and today the auction ended at an incredible 145,000 dollars! At this selling price, this is probably the most expensive Saab ever sold, whether new or used.
