The Saab underwent a complete restoration to return it to its former glory. The engine and transmission were both overhauled to factory specifications, and the body was stripped of its faded original paint and repainted in an attractive maroon color from the Mercedes color palette. What is noteworthy about this car’s restoration is the fact that the body needed little work to prepare it for the new paint job. This Saab is practically rust-free, a rare occurrence for a car of this age.

The interior was refinished in palomino Mercedes MB-Tex, a durable material that is easy to clean and maintain. The cargo area has a complementary rattan pattern, adding a touch of uniqueness to the interior design. The car was also fitted with ‘soccer ball’ wheels from a Sonett that were finished with matching body color inserts, a welcome upgrade from the standard wheels.

His initial encounter with Saab cars took place back in 2003 when the first Saab 9-3 and sedan version were introduced. At that moment, he was captivated by the car's Scandinavian design logic and top-notch engineering, and everything that followed stemmed from that first encounter. Later on, through his work at the editorial team of the Serbian automotive magazines "Autostart" and later "AutoBild," he had the opportunity to engage more closely with Saab vehicles. In 2008, he tested the latest Saab cars of that time, such as the Saab 9-3 TTiD Aero and Saab 9-3 Turbo X. In 2010, as the sole blogger from the region, he participated in the Saab 9-5ng presentation in Trollhättan, Sweden. Alongside journalists from around the world, he got a firsthand experience of the pinnacle of technological offerings from Saab at that time. Currently, Goran owns two Saabs: a 2008 Saab 9-3 Vector Sportcombi with a manual transmission, and a Saab 9-3 Aero Griffin Sport Sedan from the last generation, which rolled off the production line in Trollhättan in December 2011.

  • As a prior owner of this car I can attest to the standards undertaken during the restoration. Attention to detail and perfection is obvious. I reluctantly sold this gem when I relocated from New York to North Carolina. Being a former SAAB dealer I am proud to say this was once mine! Maybe it will be again soon. Personally I did not do the restoration but can appreciate the upgrades done to this car. There is not another one around built to this standard.

  • Is this the white SAAB that was featured in another story that mentioned John Green?

I am pleased to see that someone has the resources to do justice to an older SAAB. I wish that they had used a 1967 SAAB color but I can’t fault them for their work.
