Chevrolet has issued an important safety reminder to its Malaysian customers regarding an ongoing recall campaign affecting 3,725 units of Chevrolet and Saab vehicles in the country. The campaign, which was launched in June last year, aims to replace Takata driver airbag inflators in the affected vehicles due to the potential for fatal consequences if the faulty Takata airbags deploy during an accident.
The affected models in the recall include the Chevrolet Cruze (year 2010-2015), Chevrolet Orlando (2013-2015), Chevrolet Sonic (2013-2014), Chevrolet TRAX (2017), and Saab 9-3 (2007).
Chevrolet has expressed difficulty in tracing customers and owners due to outdated customer data and the absence of an official Chevrolet office in Malaysia. As a result, affected Chevrolet owners who have not received alerts or calls are encouraged to contact the call team or visit the recall campaign microsite for further information.
In a statement, Chevrolet emphasized the importance of replacing the airbag inflators before holiday travels commence to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers. The recall is necessary due to the issue of non-desiccated phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate propellant tablets inside the driver airbag inflators, which may undergo alteration after exposure to high temperatures and humidity cycles. This could cause the inflators to rupture during deployment if gas generation exceeds their venting capacity, posing a risk of injury or fatality.
Chevrolet has been conducting the recall campaign in cooperation with the road transport department and repairs will be carried out free of charge at selected Honda-authorized dealerships.
Affected vehicle owners can contact +6011 3129 9963 or +6011 3129 9965 for further information or visit www.chevrolettakatarecallmy.com to check if their vehicle is affected and to schedule a repair appointment promptly. Prioritizing the replacement of Takata driver airbag inflators is crucial to ensure the safety of Chevrolet and Saab owners and their loved ones on the road.
