The Journey to Borkovac

The picturesque Borkovac picnic area near Ruma was chosen as the rendezvous point—a strategic location roughly equidistant between Belgrade and Novi Sad, making it accessible for all attendees. Members from Novi Sad gathered 40 minutes prior to the 11 a.m. meeting time at a local shopping center’s parking lot. From there, a mini Saab convoy embarked towards Borkovac, symbolizing not just a journey but a moving celebration of Saab’s legacy. Upon arrival, they were warmly greeted by the Belgrade contingent, highlighting the camaraderie that defines the Saab community.

Showcasing Saab’s Rich Heritage

The rally was a living museum of Saab’s illustrious history, featuring around twenty vehicles spanning various models and generations. The oldest was a veteran white Saab 99, standing proudly alongside first and second-generation Saab 9-3s and the iconic Saab 9-5s. Each car told a story, not just of its own journey but of the collective evolution of Saab engineering and design. Attendees relished the opportunity to explore these machines up close, appreciating the nuances that make each model unique.

Tuning Titans: Performance at Its Peak

Originally boasting 450 HP and 580 Nm of torque, Marko has since ramped it up to an astounding 470 HP, turning heads and sparking conversations among fellow gearheads. Similarly impressive was Dejan’s Saab 9-3 Aero TTiD diesel, which saw its power surge from the standard 180 HP to a robust 267 HP—a testament to the potential lying under the hood of Saab vehicles.

The Heart of the Community

Beyond the cars, the rally was about connecting and sharing. For nearly two hours, members exchanged information, recommendations, and personal experiences, delving into discussions about modifications, maintenance, and the shared joy of driving a Saab. The atmosphere was electric yet warm, embodying the essence of the Saab community—a network bound not just by a brand but by a shared passion.

It wasn’t just about cars anymore; it was about building relationships and fostering a community that extends beyond the road. By around 2 p.m., members began to part ways, each carrying with them the satisfaction of a day well spent and memories that would fuel their passion until the next gathering.

For over 15 years, Goran Aničić has been passionately focused on Saab automobiles and everything related to them. His initial encounter with Saab cars took place back in 2003 when the first Saab 9-3 and sedan version were introduced. At that moment, he was captivated by the car's Scandinavian design logic and top-notch engineering, and everything that followed stemmed from that first encounter. Later on, through his work at the editorial team of the Serbian automotive magazines "Autostart" and later "AutoBild," he had the opportunity to engage more closely with Saab vehicles. In 2008, he tested the latest Saab cars of that time, such as the Saab 9-3 TTiD Aero and Saab 9-3 Turbo X. In 2010, as the sole blogger from the region, he participated in the Saab 9-5ng presentation in Trollhättan, Sweden. Alongside journalists from around the world, he got a firsthand experience of the pinnacle of technological offerings from Saab at that time. Currently, Goran owns two Saabs: a 2008 Saab 9-3 Vector Sportcombi with a manual transmission, and a Saab 9-3 Aero Griffin Sport Sedan from the last generation, which rolled off the production line in Trollhättan in December 2011.
