“TeamD” Saab 900 Turbo in the Alcan Winter Rally

TeamD started out in 1999 as the rally team of Steve Willey and Eric Horst. Formed to contest the Alcan Winter Rally in 2000, Steve and Eric were propelled into a world they never knew existed — the rally world. Over time TeamD grew as Steve and Eric introduced friends new and old to the rally world.

Today, TeamD is more than two individuals ever could be. Together with friends, new and old, they facilitate fun for all involved. Their last adventure was participating in the 2008 Alcan Winter Rally. The event that started it all, the 2000 Alcan Winter Rally saw Stephen Willey and Eric Horst give it their all in a Range Rover….

TeamD people served as rally officials for the 2002 Alcan 5000 Rally in August of 2002. That event visited the Yukon and Northwest Territories of Canada. The 2004 Alcan Winter Rally was a big event for TeamD. Three cars not only survived but did a great job. Several TeamD members served as rally officials for the 2006 Alcan 5000 Rally, a late-summer event to Alaska.

Alcan Winter Rally 2008 – 1985 Saab 900 Turbo

The Alcan Winter Rally is an ultimate challenge. A unique driving competition spanning ten days from February 17 to 26 and 4850 miles from Seattle, Washington to Jasper, Alberta by way of Tuktoyaktuk on the Arctic Ocean. It is both a journey and a destination for which simply surviving to the finish is an accomplishment.  Dan (driver) ran as a navigator in Winter Alcan ’04 and worked Summer ’06. This is Hans’ (navigator) first Alcan. Their ride (Alcan Winter Rally 2008) is the green 1985 Saab 900 Turbo.

For over 15 years, Goran Aničić has been passionately focused on Saab automobiles and everything related to them. His initial encounter with Saab cars took place back in 2003 when the first Saab 9-3 and sedan version were introduced. At that moment, he was captivated by the car's Scandinavian design logic and top-notch engineering, and everything that followed stemmed from that first encounter. Later on, through his work at the editorial team of the Serbian automotive magazines "Autostart" and later "AutoBild," he had the opportunity to engage more closely with Saab vehicles. In 2008, he tested the latest Saab cars of that time, such as the Saab 9-3 TTiD Aero and Saab 9-3 Turbo X. In 2010, as the sole blogger from the region, he participated in the Saab 9-5ng presentation in Trollhättan, Sweden. Alongside journalists from around the world, he got a firsthand experience of the pinnacle of technological offerings from Saab at that time. Currently, Goran owns two Saabs: a 2008 Saab 9-3 Vector Sportcombi with a manual transmission, and a Saab 9-3 Aero Griffin Sport Sedan from the last generation, which rolled off the production line in Trollhättan in December 2011.
